Everton 2
- Cahill 6,
- Donovan 19
Sunderland 0
A Tim Cahill-inspired Everton piled more misery on Sunderland with a comfortable 2-0 win at Goodison Park.
With no away win since the opening day and no win anywhere since November 21, Sunderland were always going to find this a tough match to win and things were not helped when Cahill nodded the home team in front after just seven minutes.
The Australian international peeled off his marker - into what was an offside position - to flick Marouane Fellaini's floated cross beyond Craig Gordon.
Twelve minutes later Cahill turned provider.
Leighton Baines played a long diagonal ball into Cahill who headed the ball perfectly into the path of Landon Donovan who controlled the ball on his chest and shot first time into the back of the net for his first Everton goal since arriving on loan from LA Galaxy.
